The Buffet

"And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all He has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind He will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship Him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect." Romans 12:1-2 NLT

I think that we treat following Jesus like working our way through a buffet line. The Bible says to be renewed in our thinking. To live a life of worship to God. To live a life that is contrary to the standards of the world. But instead, we work our way through the buffet line. We pick and choose what teachings of Christ we want to follow and the ones we don't. We add a heaping spoonful of grace and prosperity to our self-indulgent plates. But we turn up our noses at obedience and selflessness.

Jesus didn't just give a piece of Himself for us at the cross. He doesn't just offer us a partial relationship. He gives us His all.

So, as you go through the buffet line of following Jesus, what are you leaving off your plate? Why? Try eating your veggies. You just might find they're not only good for you, you might actually like them!
